In a genuinely unprecedented move, Jaguar paused all new car sales and production of its entire existing lineup to relaunch as an ultra-luxury, all-electric brand — and this concept, unveiled at Miami Art Week in December 2024, was the first glimpse of what that reinvention actually looks like.

A Deliberately Controversial First Statement
Few concept car reveals have generated this much genuine argument. The Type 00's design, influenced by Renaissance-era architecture and built around founder William Lyons's philosophy of "copy nothing," split opinion sharply between those who saw bold reinvention and those who saw a step too far from Jaguar's heritage.
From Concept to Confirmed October 2026 Reveal
The two-door Type 00 concept debuted at Miami Art Week in December 2024, shown in two colourways — Miami Pink and London Blue — with butterfly doors and a stone-and-brass interior treatment unlike anything Jaguar had built before. It was never intended for production, serving instead to introduce the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform underpinning an entirely new generation of Jaguars. Its four-door production successor has since been officially named the Type 01, and after two delays — first from 2025, then from a planned September 2026 date — Jaguar has now confirmed a global reveal in New York on 6 October 2026, with camouflaged prototypes already completing dynamic testing at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed and on public roads in the UK, Paris, London and around Monaco.
The Confirmed Specs So Far
Jaguar has disclosed a tri-motor electric powertrain — one at the front, two at the rear — producing around 1,000bhp and 1,300Nm of torque through an 850-volt electrical system and a 120kWh battery, with a WLTP-certified range beyond 700km (roughly 435 miles) and rapid charging capable of adding around 200 miles in 15 minutes. The car itself is a genuinely large four-door GT at 5.2 metres long, with air suspension and twin-valve active dampers. JLR's chief commercial officer Lennard Hoornik has promised the eventual reveal will be handled "in a very, very special way," while acknowledging that early reaction to the rebrand had been rocky before "turning around into a positive" as the production car has taken shape.
Why Jaguar Stopped Selling Cars to Build This One
Jaguar has been explicit that this new generation targets a far more exclusive, higher-priced segment than any Jaguar before it, aiming to compete directly with Bentley and Rolls-Royce rather than its traditional BMW and Mercedes rivals. As part of the relaunch, production of every existing Jaguar model ended, including the F-Pace, which was discontinued in 2025 as the brand's last model on sale — meaning the Type 01 effectively re-launches Jaguar as a manufacturer from a standing start, with Jaguar reporting nearly 50,000 expressions of interest registered ahead of the October reveal.
How Much Will the Jaguar Type 01 Cost?
Jaguar hasn't published an official price, but industry reporting and comments from company executives consistently point toward a starting figure well over £100,000, potentially reaching £150,000 or more once specification and options are factored in — one executive has reportedly described the intended positioning as similar to where Range Rover sits in JLR's wider portfolio, suggesting typical transaction prices around £130,000. As a pre-production car, the Type 01 isn't yet collectible in the traditional sense, though the scale of Jaguar's gamble — betting its entire future on a single, radically repositioned flagship — makes this a genuinely significant launch to watch regardless of where final pricing lands.
