Renault Zoe Alternator: OEM Part Number

Genuinely important to know: as a full EV, the Zoe doesn't have a conventional belt-driven alternator at all — the 12V auxiliary system is charged via a DC-DC converter from the main traction battery instead. If you're seeing 12V electrical symptoms (dim lights, slow accessory power), the fault is far more likely to be the 12V auxiliary battery or the DC-DC converter than anything resembling a traditional alternator failure.

Confirmed: The Zoe Has No Alternator At All — Renault Zoe Alternator

This is worth knowing clearly: as a fully electric vehicle, the Zoe has no alternator, since there's no combustion engine to drive one — this entire category of maintenance simply doesn't apply. If you've been quoted for alternator work on a Zoe, this is worth querying directly, since it would be a genuine error.

What actually charges the 12V system instead: the Zoe's 12V auxiliary battery (which powers lights, infotainment, and standard electrics, separate from the main high-voltage traction battery) is kept charged via a DC-DC converter, which draws power from the main battery and steps it down to 12V — functionally replacing what an alternator would do on a conventional car, but with no belt-driven mechanical component at all.

Renault Zoe Alternator: Often Blamed on the Battery Instead

On the Renault Zoe, it's genuinely hard to tell a weak battery from a failing alternator just from symptoms — both produce dim lights, slow starts, and a battery that won't hold charge. That's exactly why so many people end up replacing the wrong part, then returning to the garage a few weeks later.

Before you buy: alternator output rating varies by engine size and trim, particularly on cars with more onboard electronics. Always confirm against your VIN before ordering.

Renault Zoe Alternator: What It Does

Running the Renault Zoe's electrical systems and keeping the battery charged while the engine turns over — that's the alternator's role. A properly functioning one means the battery only really needs to worry about starting the car and absorbing occasional spikes in demand.
